Teknoware to deliver complete interior lighting solution for Brightline West high-speed trains
Brightline West is building a next-generation high-speed rail connection between Las Vegas and Southern California. Teknoware is providing a comprehensive lighting solution for the project’s train fleet, combining passenger comfort, ambient lighting, and intelligent lighting control.
Brightline West is a new fully electric high-speed rail service connecting Las Vegas with Southern California. Operating at speeds of up to 220 mph (350 km/h), the trains will offer passengers a fast and convenient alternative along one of the busiest travel corridors in the United States.
Teknoware will supply the complete onboard lighting package for ten seven-car trainsets. The scope of supply includes general lighting, reading lights, cab lighting, as well as ambient and effect lighting for standard-class and first-class coaches and a dedicated party car. The products are manufactured in the United States in compliance with Buy America Act (BAA) requirements, while product development has been carried out in Lahti, Finland. The project’s ambitious schedule underscores the value of Teknoware’s global operating model, bringing together product development in Finland, manufacturing in the United States, and coordinated project management across international teams.
Lighting plays an important role in shaping the passenger experience. In high-speed rail projects such as Brightline West, lighting solutions must deliver high reliability, seamless interoperability with onboard systems, and the flexibility to adapt to different passenger environments. In the lounge car, aka “party car”, RGB+W lighting enables dynamic atmosphere creation for various events and travel experiences, while throughout the rest of the train, the lighting supports passenger comfort, safety, and usability.
The project incorporates Teknoware’s latest lighting control architecture, based on the Traintelligence® system. The solution enables versatile lighting management while meeting the requirements of modern rail vehicles in terms of intelligence, cybersecurity, and system integration. This enables lighting to operate as an integrated part of the train’s onboard systems, supporting both operational efficiency and improving the passenger experience.
